The Tseminyu District Green Initiative (TDGI) on Friday visited Sendenyu area as part of its ongoing district-wide effort to promote sustainable development, green tourism, biodiversity conservation and community participation. This was informed through a press release issued by Kenono Foundation in collaboration with Sendenyu Community Ecotourism Board under the Sendenyu Community Responsible Tourism Initiative.

Tseminyu explores Sendenyu’s eco-cultural tourism potential, stresses sustainable development

Led by ADC Tseminyu and TDGI Convener Shri Mhomo Tungoe, NCS, the team toured key tourist, biodiversity and historical sites in the area, including Khinrun (Governor’s View Point), Sendenyu Community Biodiversity Base Camp, Nsonji–Sendenyu Centenary Memorial Park, Parashen, and the Sendenyu Biodiversity Center at New Sendenyu.

A stakeholder consultation and community meeting was later held at the Sendenyu Biodiversity Center, bringing together the four village councils of Sendenyu, New Sendenyu, Thongsunyu and Lotsuphen, along with the Sendenyu Community Ecotourism Board (SCEB) and Kenono Foundation.

The program was attended by TDGI members, officials from departments including Rural Development, PHED and Forest, as well as community leaders, youth representatives and local stakeholders.

During the interaction, Mhomo Tungoe encouraged the community to preserve and promote its natural and cultural heritage while embracing sustainable and responsible tourism practices for long-term socio-economic growth.

Tourism expert and Founder of Exotic East Tours & Travels, Tieso Yhokha, shared insights on the tourism potential of the Sendenyu landscape, highlighting the importance of community-based tourism, conservation-linked livelihoods, hospitality development, and preservation of indigenous identity and biodiversity.

Chairman of SCEB, Er Njilo Kemp, on behalf of stakeholders and community leaders, expressed gratitude to TDGI for recognizing and promoting Sendenyu villages as an eco and cultural tourism destination under the initiative. The community also reaffirmed its commitment to biodiversity conservation, responsible tourism and collaborative development.

The program concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen partnerships among government departments, community institutions and civil society organisations towards promoting Sendenyu as a sustainable tourism and conservation destination.
