An awareness programme on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine was conducted at GHS Yangphi for adolescent girls aged 14 years. The session was delivered by Dr A Amos Sangtam, Medical Officer, RBSK, with the objective of educating students on the importance of cervical cancer prevention through HPV vaccination.

During the programme, Dr Amos explained that HPV is a common viral infection that can lead to cervical cancer and other health complications among women. He emphasised that timely vaccination during adolescence provides effective protection against HPV-related diseases and plays a vital role in safeguarding the future health of young girls.

The students were also informed about the safety, effectiveness and benefits of the vaccine. Interactive discussions were held to clear misconceptions and promote awareness on personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle practices and preventive healthcare.

The programme concluded with an appeal to parents and guardians to support HPV vaccination for eligible adolescent girls as an important step towards a healthier future.
