A group of aggrieved landowners affected by the NH-29 expansion project along the Purana Bazar–Chümoukedima stretch have announced plans to initiate collective legal action over disputed compensation, following a meeting held with concerned authorities on May 5.

In a notice issued to the affected parties, the committee stated that 144 landowners are listed under the rejected category (tallied and excess), while compensation has been approved for 136 landowners. It added that even those already approved but still dissatisfied are invited to join the collective effort.

The notice stated that during the May 5 meeting, landowners were advised to seek legal remedy through a civil suit. It further noted that the Advisor to the Aggrieved Landowners Committee also expressed support for pursuing the matter through appropriate legal proceedings.

“Accordingly, preparations are being initiated to file the case collectively on behalf of the affected landowners,” the notice said.

All concerned landowners have been requested to urgently submit required documents for legal proceedings, including “Xerox copy of Land Patta – 2 copies each.” The committee noted that many affected individuals have not yet submitted the required documents and urged prompt cooperation.

Documents can be submitted to designated representatives: K. Samuel, Coordinator at 3rd Mile, Thilixu Village; Kheto R. Zhimomi, Press & Record Secretary at 3rd Mile opposite Little Angel School, Thilixu Village; and Mutsitso Kezo at 4th Mile near Axis Bank. A contact number, 8787534356, has also been provided for coordination.

The committee has appealed to all concerned landowners to submit documents at the earliest.
