The Election Commission of India (ECI) has formally recognised the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the Naga People’s Front (NPF), effectively ending the NDPP’s separate political identity, according to a communication received by the State Election Commission, Nagaland.
The State Election Commission stated that it has received Order No. 56/06/2026/PPS-II dated May 4, 2026, issued by the ECI, which confirms the merger in line with a decision taken at a meeting held on October 18, 2025. With this recognition, the NDPP has ceased to exist as a separate political party.
The Commission noted that in the General Election to the Municipal and Town Councils, 2024, candidates elected on the NDPP ticket had been duly notified and their names published in the Nagaland Gazette (Extraordinary) vide Notification No. SEC/ELE-RESULT/2024/279 dated July 1, 2024.
Following the ECI’s order, the State Election Commission has invoked powers under Section 31(1) read with Section 44 of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, to give effect to the merger in official records.
It stated that the party name “NDPP” against elected members in the 2024 municipal and town council records shall stand amended as “NPF” for all practical purposes in the concerned municipalities with effect from the date of publication in the Nagaland Gazette.
