Tribal women bodies in Kohima have announced a public rally on June 19 to express concern over recent developments in the sexual harassment case involving IDAN officer Reny Wilfred and to reaffirm their commitment to justice and accountability.

The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of tribal women bodies in Kohima convened to deliberate on what they described as continued attempts to delay the ongoing proceedings in the case.

In a public appeal issued by the Action Committee for Tribal Women Bodies of Kohima, the organisations said the developments had “deeply saddened and alarmed” the community, particularly at a time when incidents of sexual harassment and violence against women and children were becoming increasingly alarming.

The women bodies stated that there is an urgent need for stronger protection of vulnerable groups and for a justice system that inspires public confidence.

Following discussions, the meeting unanimously resolved to organise a peaceful public rally “to express the community’s concern, reaffirm its commitment to justice, and stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence.”

The rally will be held on June 19 at 10:00 am. Participants will assemble at the Old MLA Hostel Junction before proceeding in a march to Raj Bhavan, where a memorandum will be submitted to the Governor.

The organisers have appealed to all tribal bodies, churches, civil society organisations, youth and women’s groups, and the general public to extend their support by mobilising participants for the programme. Attendees have been encouraged to wear their traditional attire as a symbol of unity, shared identity and collective resolve.

Describing the event as peaceful and non-confrontational, the women bodies stated that the rally is not directed against any individual or institution but is intended as “a collective call for justice, accountability, and the protection of every woman and child.”

They further appealed to all Nagas to participate in the rally and stand united in their commitment to justice, the safety of women and children, and the future of society.

The appeal was issued by the Action Committee for Tribal Women Bodies of Kohima, with Convenor Atono Kense and Member Secretary Neithono R Sothu calling for broad public participation.
