Defending champions Feb. 29 of Dimapur retained the title at the 2nd Khensa Students’ Union Open Futsal Tournament after defeating Mongsenbai FC 5-0 in the final at Asameyaa Futsal Turf, Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung, on July 11.

Organised by the Khensa Students’ Union under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), the three-day tournament, held from July 9 to 11, was themed “One Game. One Passion. One Goal.”

The champions received a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while runners-up Mongsenbai FC were awarded Rs 30,000. Abu of Feb. 29 finished as the tournament’s highest scorer with 19 goals and also received the Highest Goal Scorer award. His teammate Yanger was named Best Player, while Imkumer of Mongsenbai FC was adjudged Best Goalkeeper. Individual award winners received Rs 3,000 each.

A total of 25 teams from Mokokchung, Tuli and Dimapur participated in the tournament.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Atsungba Walling said football teaches valuable life lessons beyond competition. He highlighted teamwork, discipline, mental fitness, resilience and sportsmanship as essential qualities for success.

Walling urged young people to prioritise physical fitness, noting that many candidates had failed the physical endurance test during a recent police recruitment drive. Congratulating the finalists, he encouraged players and supporters to continue promoting sports to build a healthier, stronger and more disciplined community.
