The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung, Chuchuyimlang Block, inaugurated a Farm School and conducted a one-day capacity building programme at Mongsenyimti village on July 17 to promote sustainable farming practices and improve farmers’ livelihoods.

The Farm School focused on sustainable Eri silkworm rearing and began with a welcome address by Block Technology Manager Aolemla Kichu, who highlighted the objectives of the initiative and its role in strengthening farmers’ skills through practical learning.

Achiever farmer Nungshiyangla served as the resource person and shared her experience in Eri silkworm rearing. She spoke on host plant management, disease control and scientific rearing practices. A practical demonstration on disinfection using bleaching powder and the proper arrangement of rearing shelves to prevent overcrowding and disease spread was also conducted. The session concluded with an interactive discussion during which participants shared their experiences and clarified their queries.

ATMA also organised a capacity building programme on kharif crop cultivation for the Telongjem Food Security Group. Resource person Abenla B. Jamir, Agricultural Technology Manager, provided training on scientific crop management, sowing methods and intercropping techniques. She also emphasised the importance of weed management, water conservation and plant protection measures for improving crop productivity.

Seeds of cowpea, sweet corn, bush bean and lady’s finger were distributed to the participants.

Altogether, 20 farmers attended the programme.
