The Mokokchung district administration has restricted the movement of heavy vehicles across the Dikhu River Bailey Bridge on National Highway-202 due to the deteriorating condition of the bridge, with only light motor vehicles (LMVs) and passenger-carrying vehicles allowed to use the crossing until further orders.

In an order issued by Deputy Commissioner A. Jit Kumar Verma, IAS, the administration said the restriction has been imposed in view of the bridge’s dilapidated condition and will remain in force until it is repaired and certified safe for heavy vehicular traffic.

Heavy goods vehicles have been advised to use alternative routes, including Mokokchung–Longmisa–Dikhu–Alisophur–Tronger–Tuensang, Tuensang–Chare–Mokokchung, and Suruhoto–Akuluto–Lumami–Mokokchung.

The order, however, provides that in cases of emergency or exigency, permission for heavy vehicles to cross the bridge may be obtained from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung.

The district administration has directed all concerned to strictly comply with the order until further notice, saying the measure is intended to ensure public safety while the bridge awaits repairs.
