Flash floods and landslides have damaged roads and bridges across Noklak district, with the severe damage to Lein Bridge disrupting connectivity to nine villages in the Panso area.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Noklak, said restoration work has been initiated in coordination with the Public Works Department (PWD) Roads & Bridges following the damage to the bridge on the Noklak–Tsuwao route.
Road connectivity has also remained vulnerable to fresh landslides, with an approximately seven-kilometre stretch blocked at eight locations after earlier clearance and restoration work.
The DDMA said road clearance and restoration have been carried out along several routes, including Noklak–Panso, Noklak–Kingpao, Langnok–Noklak and Panso–Yakor. Maintenance work has also been undertaken on the Pangsha shortcut road.
The Noklak–Chendang Saddle Road, another important link to the district headquarters, has also been affected, with the DDMA taking up the matter with concerned authorities for early restoration.
The continuing disruption has also affected emergency movement. The DDMA’s JCB was deployed to clear the Nokhu–Kingpao road to facilitate the transportation of a seriously ill patient, while clearance work was undertaken on roads leading towards the damaged Lein Bridge.
The DDMA said its JCB has remained engaged in road clearance and restoration duties since July 19.
Relief measures have also been extended to affected households. Tarpaulins have been distributed to families affected by landslides, while more than 50 SDRF assistance forms have been issued to affected individuals.
The administration also arranged transportation, refreshments and accommodation for 30 passengers stranded between Saddle and Noklak in coordination with the drivers’ union and the concerned contractor.
Other restoration works include repairs to foot overbridges between Kingpao–Aniashu and Noklak–Lengnyu, and restoration of a damaged culvert at Danlepdong on the approach road to the District Hospital.
The district administration and DDMA said field assessments and restoration efforts are continuing across affected locations.
