The 32nd Spero Meliora Literary Competitive Programme was held at the Kohima Village Multipurpose Building, Ziekezou, on Saturday, with Governor of Nagaland Nand Kishore Yadav attending as the special guest.
The annual programme was organised by the Kohima Village Students’ Union and the Dolphin Club, Kohima Village, under the theme “Break the Ice and Steal a March.” The event has been nurturing literary talents among students for over three decades.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav congratulated the organisers on successfully conducting the 32nd edition. He said the motto “Spero Meliora,” meaning “I hope for better things,” reflected the aspirations of students striving for excellence.
He noted that hope inspires achievement, while perseverance and character lead to success. Speaking on the theme, the Governor encouraged young people to overcome hesitation, take initiative and move forward with confidence.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he urged the students to “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached,” while encouraging them to seize opportunities, embrace challenges and strive for excellence.
Yadav observed that success in a rapidly changing world requires the ability to think independently, communicate effectively and adapt to change. He said literary competitions play an important role in developing confidence, critical thinking and the ability to express ideas clearly.
The Governor commended the organisers, teachers, parents and volunteers for their efforts in nurturing the talents and character of young people.
He encouraged participants to remain curious, read widely and pursue their dreams with confidence, integrity and humility. He said true success is measured not only by personal achievements but also by the positive impact one makes on others, and wished all participants success.
