A multi-institute international study involving Nagaland University researchers has proposed an integrated framework for using artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen ethical decision-making, transparency, environmental sustainability and organisational resilience.

The study argues that AI governance should go beyond regulation and help organisations build stakeholder trust while supporting sustainable development and long-term performance.

Researchers developed a framework connecting AI governance, organisational resilience, ethical decision-making and environmental sustainability. The study used a mixed-methods approach involving 185 managers, sustainability officers, governance experts and AI specialists working with AI-enabled environmental and digital platforms.

The findings have been published in NESciences (Natural and Engineering Sciences).

The paper was co-authored by Dr Mohammed Shamsul Hoque of Southeast University, Bangladesh; Dr R. Vasanthan of Nagaland University; Dr Khriereizhünuo Dzüvichü of Central University of Tamil Nadu; Dr Olga Glukhova of Rostov State University of Economics, Russia; and Dr P. Shanmuga Sundari of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu.

Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik said technological advancement must be guided by “ethical principles, institutional accountability, and long-term sustainability goals”.

Dr Vasanthan said the research provides a practical framework to help policymakers and organisations adopt AI responsibly while promoting transparency, accountability and public interest.

The study highlights responsible AI adoption, stronger organisational resilience, improved stakeholder trust and sustainable environmental management as key outcomes.
