Renowned poet and author Vishii Rita Krocha encouraged students of Pfutsero Government College to document their own stories rooted in their land through sitting and listening. She was speaking at a seminar organised by the Department of English on the theme “Voices of the Hills: Where Hills Speak Through Stories, Memories, and Tradition” at the college seminar hall on Wednesday.
Drawing from her experiences in the fields and village life with her grandparents, where she discovered her love for stories, Krocha emphasised how storytelling and oral traditions help shape a sense of identity and strengthen community ties. She encouraged students to preserve and share stories rooted in their own communities.
The talk was followed by an interactive session during which students raised questions related to creative writing and storytelling. Krocha also gifted copies of her books to the Department of English and its students.
The programme was chaired by Assistant Professor Veduvolu Nienu. It began with a welcome address by Neipreu Mero, HoD and Assistant Professor, Department of English.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Professor Sano Koza. Principal Dr Anungla Pongener, faculty members and students attended the seminar.
