Kohima, 18 September: Around 600 to 700 teachers appointed before implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act attended an emergency meeting convened by the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) at the CANNSEA office premises in Kohima on Friday.
The meeting was attended by teachers from 15 districts, with Noklak and Longleng being the exceptions. The gathering discussed concerns relating to the National Teacher Eligibility Test (NTET) requirement for teachers appointed before implementation of the RTE Act.
The house unanimously resolved to form a Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) of Pre-RTE Teachers to pursue the matter with elected representatives and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, seeking exemption of Pre-RTE teachers from the NTET examination.
The committee will be headed by Kezhalezo Solo of Kohima as Convenor, Chingwang Konyak of Mon district as Co-Convenor and Sherin Keppen of Chümoukedima district as Treasurer, with two members from each district.
The meeting also unanimously resolved to collect and contribute Rs 1,000 from each affected teacher towards pursuing the matter.
The meeting was chaired by Kezhalezo Solo, Vice President of ANSTA, and began with an invocation by Yesuho Kiba, Primary Teacher, GHSS Zunheboto. ANSTA President Kasheto Sumi delivered the welcome address.
During the business session, teachers were given an opportunity to express their views, options and suggestions. ANSTA General Secretary Pekinto Y. Jimo responded to queries raised by the teachers and delivered the concluding statement.
