The 6th edition of the Brillante Piano Festival got underway in New Delhi on September 18, with Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Chairman of the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), attending the Celebration Concert as Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Metha appreciated the growth of the festival, which originated in Nagaland and has expanded internationally under Festival Director Kyochano TCK.
He said music and the arts transcend geographical, cultural and social boundaries, bringing people together through a shared spirit of celebration. He also lauded the festival for creating platforms for musicians and young talent and facilitating collaborations beyond Nagaland and India.
Highlighting Nagaland’s cultural and tourism potential, Metha invited the gathering to visit the State and experience its traditions, landscapes, cuisine and hospitality.
“We can assure you of warm hospitality. Our hugs are from the heart, our smiles are genuine, and every door is always open to welcome our guests in true Naga tradition,” he said.
Referring to Kohima as a destination “where history changed course”, he highlighted its historical significance and its association with the Hornbill Festival.
Metha also acknowledged the British Council’s collaboration with the festival and its longstanding engagement with Nagaland. He thanked Alison Barrett MBE, Director, British Council India, for her support and partnership.
Barrett shared the British Council’s work and partnerships with Nagaland and spoke about the State as a destination, describing it as one of the most memorable places she had visited in India during her more than three decades in the country.
The festival, which began in Nagaland, has evolved into an international platform connecting musicians, educators, institutions and music enthusiasts. The 6th edition is being held at multiple venues in New Delhi, with Celebration Concerts hosted at the British Council. KM Music Conservatory is among the institutional partners.
