The Mokokchung Police has ordered strict enforcement of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989, across the district following a coordination meeting on September 20, with measures aimed at preventing further loss of life and restricting the inflow, sale and distribution of prohibited liquor.
In an order issued by Sr. Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kezo, all officers-in-charge of police stations were directed to intensify patrolling and surveillance and take action against the sale, storage and distribution of liquor in colonies, shops, dhabas, hotels, houses and other locations.
Police were directed to seize prohibited liquor and initiate legal action under the NLTP Act and prevailing procedures. They were also instructed to coordinate with Ward Unions, Village Councils and civil society organisations and act promptly on credible information regarding illegal liquor sales or storage.
Vehicle checking at all designated check gates and strategic points has been ordered to prevent the transportation of liquor into the district.

The order further directed police to initiate steps to seal shops, commercial establishments or houses where liquor is repeatedly or illegally sold, in the presence of and in coordination with the competent magistrate, wherever legally permissible.
“Proper photography and videography shall be carried out during searches, seizures and sealing proceedings” for transparency and evidentiary purposes, the order stated.
SDPOs were directed to personally supervise enforcement and ensure compliance by police stations and check gates. Compliance reports detailing action taken, seizures and cases detected are to be submitted to the Superintendent of Police.
The order warned that negligence or laxity in enforcement would be viewed seriously and came into force with immediate effect.
