Representatives of the Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), Tenyimia Union Nagaland (TUN) and Eastern Nagaland People’s Union of Mokokchung (ENPUM), representing the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), formally acknowledged the land donated to the three organisations by the Ungma Village Council and three clans of Ungma on September 26.
A reception and acknowledgement program was held at the Rongpu Astro Turf, Ungma, in the presence of representatives of the three organisations, Ao Senden, the Ungma Village Council, land donors and well-wishers, a press release from the CNTC stated.
Speaking at the program, CNTC president Hukiye K Yepthomi, TUN president K T Villie and ENPUM president Y Among Yimkhiung expressed gratitude to the Ungma Village Council and the three land-donating clans, and said the gesture should be translated into greater cooperation among the three organisations.
The leaders said the land should become a place where cooperation and fellowship could be strengthened, while encouraging the three bodies to understand, respect and support one another.
Speaking on behalf of the donors, Tatars Imtidongba Jamir, R Nungshilepden Jamir and Imtisungkum Longkumer said the donation was intended to “sow the seed of unity” among different groups in Nagaland. They encouraged the organisations to utilise the land at the earliest.
The donated plots were allotted through a lottery system, according to the organisers. The land was donated by the Lanusuwa Semchir Jamir Clan for CNTC, the Shikiyangba Semchir Jamir Clan for TUN and the Sentirongba Semchir Longkumer Clan for ENPO.
Ao Senden General Secretary Imti Longkumer also addressed the gathering.
The program also included a special presentation by TUN and the presentation of shawls and sashes to the Ungma Village Council and the three organisations. The delegation later inspected the donated land.
The event was chaired by Ungma Village Council Secretary Nungsangtemjen and concluded with a reception hosted by the Village Council.
