I am deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of Khetoho Nurumi, whom I considered as my younger brother.

After completing his matriculation in 1991, I was then a young officer took him to Jotsoma Science College in my official vehicle-a sky blue Mahindra Jeep, reg. no. NLG-1357. He was admitted to the college, and after a few weeks, he moved into the hostel.

During holidays and collage breaks, Khetoho would often spend time with me. He was smart, intelligent, and full of promise-an emerging young leader in the making.

Later, he went to Delhi to pursue higher studies in Mass Communication. Upon his return to Nagaland, he was actively working with various media houses, pursuing his vision with dedication.

After he got married, we lived together for a few years at my private residence in Bayavu Hill. Throughout this time, Khetoho held me in great respect and regard, treating me as his elder brother.

One of the memories I will always cherish was during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the incharge of Dimapur—a task that was both challenging and deeply humbling. Many friends from the media fraternity stood with us, helping to create awareness and encourage the public during those uncertain days. Khetoho was one of those who stepped forward.

He launched his own media platform, News and Trends Channel,” with the aim of informing and educating the masses during the crisis. His commitment to public service through journalism was both selfless and commendable.

One moment that touched me deeply was when I returned to Kohima on 12th June 2020, after completing four intense months of COVID duty in Dimapur—on Father’s Day, 14th June, after attending church, Khetoho reached out and requested a conversation. We spent meaningful time together, during which he personally thanked me on behalf of the people for my service. It was a heartfelt gesture—one that I will never forget.

Soon after, he relocated to Dimapur, and though we could no longer meet in person, we stayed in touch through occasional phone calls.

With his passing, the Sümi community and the Naga people as a whole have lost a bright, promising, and courageous young leader. His memory will always be cherished.

Late Khetoho Nurumi: A Brother, Leader, and Voice for the People.

Rest in peace, dear Khetoho.

You will be deeply missed.
