Mokokchung, 30 August (MTNews): The Alempang Ward Sanitation Committee has launched an ambitious road repair project to fix potholes in the 5-kilometer road stretch leading to Alempang ward in Mokokchung Town. The stretch includes Alongmen ward, Dilong ward, and Tongdentsuyong ward on the way to Alempang ward.
Temjentoshi, Chairman of the Sanitation Committee said that the decision was driven by the deteriorating road conditions which were causing difficulties for residents, especially students. “The road maintenance was undertaken by the PWD R&B five years ago, but the government’s inaction after the five years prompted the committee to take matters into their own hands,” said Nokin Jamir, Secretary of the Sanitation Committee.
The project is entirely self-funded by the committee, with no public donations, and has received Ward council permission. “The repair work, costing approximately 1 lakh rupees for boulders, earthing like soil, stones, involves collaborative labor efforts,” the committee mentioned, adding that the work started on 30 August and will continue until they repair all the potholes in the road leading to the ward.
The message they wanted to send was that “the Government has neglected the maintenance of the road for five years due to which the Sanitation Committee of the ward took a voluntary decision to repair the road through its efforts.”
