Mokokchung, 24 December (MTNews): The 51st Mokokchung Inter-Ward Christmas Cake Race was held on December 24, organized by the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) at the town square. The event, which has become an annual tradition, witnessed enthusiastic participation from all 18 wards under the municipality.
After a thrilling competition, Alongmen Ward emerged as the winner, followed by Lijaba Lijen and Dilong Wards in second and third places, respectively. Alongmen Ward won the title for the first time in “more than 30 years,” while last year’s winners, Dilong Ward, had to settle for third place, reflecting the highly competitive nature of the event. Former multiple-time winners and last year’s runners-up, Lijaba Lijen, once again finished second.
The winners were awarded cash prizes, certificates, and cakes. The first-prize winner took home a cash prize of ₹50,000, while the second- and third-prize winners received ₹30,000 and ₹20,000, respectively. The cash prizes were sponsored by Tongpang Ozukum, Advisor for Water Resources, Nagaland.
The Inter-Ward Christmas Cake Race has become a highly anticipated event in Mokokchung, with citizens looking forward to it every year. The event promotes community spirit, teamwork, and healthy competition among the wards, and has evolved into an integral part of the festive season in Mokokchung.
Meanwhile, the MMC also presented several awards on the day. Alempang Ward was awarded the ‘Best Maintained Ward Award 2024’ after securing 77.8 points. Last year’s winner, Salangtem Ward, was adjudged the second-place winner, narrowly missing the title by just a few points (77.5). Kumlong Ward was awarded third place (67.8).
Additionally, Artang Ward and Alongmen Ward received the ‘Most Improved Ward’ awards. The MMC also presented the ‘Best Sanitation Workers 2024’ awards to Bendangmenla in the female category, Dil Bahadur in the male category, and Pehe Shiu, who was recognized as the best driver. The prizes were sponsored by the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
