The All-Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has expressed deep concern over the prolonged vacancy of principal posts at three government colleges in the state: Dimapur Government College, Zunheboto Government College, and Wangkhao Government College. In a representation addressed to the Commissioner & Secretary of Higher Education and Technical, Government of Nagaland, the ANCSU has demanded immediate action to fill these crucial positions.

In the letter, the union emphasized that despite repeated appeals, these positions remain unfilled, which is severely affecting the academic and administrative functioning of the colleges. “The absence of Principals in these institutions has created confusion among students, faculty, and staff,” the ANCSU stated, highlighting the negative impact of these vacancies as the colleges prepare for the NAAC Assessment and Accreditation and work towards implementing the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The union also pointed out the critical need for experienced and academically qualified leadership, particularly as these colleges transition to postgraduate programs. “The transition to postgraduate programs demands academically qualified and experienced leadership, which cannot be compromised,” the ANCSU wrote, stressing the urgency of filling these vacancies to ensure the smooth functioning of the colleges.

In light of these concerns, the ANCSU urged the department to appoint Principals as per the Nagaland Higher Education Service Rules 2015, calling for immediate action to avoid further disruption. Additionally, the union demanded the removal of the retired Principal and Professor currently managing the college affairs, citing that their management is inadequate for the colleges’ ongoing academic needs.

The ANCSU further stated, “Failure to act within seven days from the date of this letter will compel the Union to initiate democratic protests to safeguard students’ academic interests and faculty.” The union also questioned the department’s continued delay in addressing the issue, despite the repeated concerns raised by students and faculty.

“We urge the department to act decisively and prevent unnecessary confrontation with the student community,” the ANCSU concluded, stressing the importance of resolving the matter promptly to avoid escalating tensions.
