The ATAL Foundation, named after former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has focused on various critical areas including literacy, healthcare, disability support, empowerment of underprivileged communities, and livelihood development. The foundation has a wide presence across India, with Nagaland establishing its own ATAL Foundation on February 19, 2024.

On May 4, 2024, the Nagaland Unit office bearers, led by President Kevechutso Doulo, met with Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan at Raj Bhavan, Kohima. During the meeting, Doulo provided an overview of the foundation’s objectives and vision.

Khrieto Savino, General Secretary of the ATAL Foundation Nagaland Unit, mentioned that Governor Ganesan expressed genuine enthusiasm for their initiatives, despite acknowledging the nascent stage of operations in Nagaland.

Speaking to Mokokchung Times, Savino elaborated on the foundation’s focus on aiding individuals below the poverty line (BPL). He highlighted various schemes such as the Atal Kitchen, which provides meals to the impoverished, and the Atal Dedication Scheme, aimed at assisting those unable to afford school fees. Additionally, he mentioned the establishment of Atal hospitals, schools, old age homes, and orphanages under this scheme.

“All these fall under this scheme but it will take a little time to start because we just started the foundation,” said Savino.

Expressing gratitude, the office bearers of the ATAL Foundation Nagaland Unit, represented by President Kevechuto Doulo and General Secretary Khrieto Savino, extended their appreciation to Governor La Ganesan for his unwavering support. They emphasized the governor’s crucial role in fostering a brighter future for the people of Nagaland.
