The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Mokokchung, Chuchuyimlang Block conducted Demonstration, Group Mobilization, Distribution of Seeds, Training and Capacity Building Program at Chuchuyimlang and Mongsenyimti villages from October 19-22.
According to a press release from Tangit Longkumer, ATM, resource person Aolemla Kichu, BTM demonstrated cultivation practices of Garden Pea, Radish, and Mustard Seed Varietal Performance. She briefed the farmers on a variety of practices for growing Garden Peas, Mustard, and Radish, as well as pest and disease control measures.
Farmers group Soyim Farmers FIG was mobilized at Mongsenyimti Village with 20 members, after the farmers were appraised on the purpose and role of group mobilization.
Resource person Abenla B Jamir, ATM, provided training on Rabi Crop Cultivation. A step-by-step guide to growing winter vegetables was provided, including nursery bed preparation, intercultural operations, and weed and pest management. The training program was attended by 25 farmers in total.
A capacity-building program for Merangyimsen Telongjem SHG on winter vegetable crop cultivation was also organized in Chuchuyimlang village. Aolemla Kichu, BTM, presided over the event. Tangit Longkumer, ATM, the program’s resource person, spoke about the program’s goal and the importance of cultivating winter vegetable crops. The program drew a total of ten participants.
The activity of distributing Rabi vegetable seeds to Abensa FSG for nutritional garden was carried out. Rabi season vegetable seeds such as broccoli, Chinese cabbage, radish, onion, and garden peas were distributed to FSG members.
ATMA Kobulong Block on October 24, 2022, held a capacity building program on Homestead Gardening for Farmer Interest Groups (FIGs)/Commodity Interest Groups (CIGs) at Mopungchuket Village, Kubolong Block, with the goal of ensuring food security through homestead vegetable production, providing families and farmer groups with income from the sale of surplus goods, and increasing technical knowledge about new production techniques.
Merangdi FIG (Farmer Interest Group) was mobilized during the program. Tsuktirenla Jamir, Assistant Technology Manager, ATMA, emphasized the concept and importance of homestead gardening in today’s world.
She mentioned that one of the most important aspects of a homestead garden is the compost pit, which collects kitchen waste for composting rather than throwing it away. Furthermore, recycling of plastic bottles, buckets, and other items for use as seed trays for nursery management was elaborated. Furthermore, the resource person deliberated on improved vegetable production techniques.
Earlier in the program, C.Amongla Jamir BTM, ATMA Kubolong block highlighted the purpose of forming the group and explained the concept and importance of bookkeeping and accounting.
She mentioned that written books and accounts serve as a “surety to the general body, help to study the extent of growth of working/functioning of the groups and make the group free from confusion”.
The group members were also taught on how to prepare cash accounts from different transactions.
Later, rabi crop seeds were distributed to the farmers.Altogether, 12 farmers attended the program.
ATMA Changtongya Block under Mokokchung district conducted training and demonstration programs at Changtongya town and Yaongyimsen village.
The programs were carried out on October 22 and 24. Training on cultivation practices of winter crops was conducted by Horticulture Inspector, BTT convenor of Changtongya block, Richa as the resource person on 22 October at Changtongya town.
The block held a demonstration program on Pakchoi cultivation methods at Yaongyimsen village with ATM, Changtongya block, Toshirenla Longkumer as the resource person on October 24.
