Mokokchung, October 13 (MTNews): Following a notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways on 25 February, 2022, regarding Compensation to Victims of Hit & Run Motor Accidents Scheme 2022, the Governor of Nagaland has constituted a District Level Committee in each district.

 

To undertake all functions connected with the implementation of the scheme, the District Level Committee will be headed by the Deputy Commissioner as the Claims Settlement Commissioner and will have the Sub-Divisional Officer as Claims Enquiry Officer. The other members would include Superintendent of Police or Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chief Medical Officer of the District and Regional Transport Officer or District Transport Office as members.

 

The notification have asked the committee to submit a report on quarterly basis to the Standing Committee, including in electronic form and the report shall, inter alia, include month-wise statistics about the claim applications received, awarded, pending and reasons for pendency.

 

It has also asked the committee to meet at least once in each quarter with a minimum quorum of three members and to keep close liaison with other authorities in the district so as to ensure that the scheme gets adequate publicity.

 

The notification asked the committee to raise awareness about the rights available to claimants and the provisions of compensation under the scheme and that the progress of implementation of the scheme be evaluated in the concerned district and take corrective steps, wherever necessary.
