The Mokokchung District Police released a crime report for the years 2023 and 2024, showcasing a mixed trend in registered cases and arrests. According to the report, the total number of cases registered in 2023 was 113, with 192 individuals arrested, while in 2024, there was a decrease in both categories—85 cases registered and 114 arrests made.
The report, shared by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vesupra Kezo, highlighted notable changes in crime categories under various laws. Crimes under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) saw a reduction, with 33 cases registered in 2024 compared to 43 in 2023.
Crimes under Special and Local Laws also displayed mixed results. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act saw a sharp decline in cases, with 32 registered in 2023 and only 11 in 2024. On the other hand, cases under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act rose slightly, from 30 cases in 2023 to 37 in 2024.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act saw an increase in cases, with 2 incidents reported in 2024, compared to none in 2023. Meanwhile, cases under the Information Technology (IT) Act were low, with only one case recorded in 2024.
One of the steady areas in both years was road accidents, with 6 cases recorded in each year, suggesting no significant change in traffic-related incidents. However, traffic penalties collected in 2023 amounted to Rs 24,000, while in 2024, the amount increased to Rs 59,300.
