After two successive runner-up finishes, Changtongya side overcome Savage Setters 3-1 in final
After finishing runners-up in the previous two editions, Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) finally claimed the 14th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy 2026, defeating Savage Setters Volleyball Club Chungtia 25-22, 25-19, 14-25, 28-26 in the final at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Mokokchung on Friday.
CVA had finished runners-up in both the 12th edition in 2022 and the 13th edition in 2024, losing to MH-10 Kohima on both occasions. In 2024, MH-10 defeated CVA in a closely contested five-set final.
MH-10 Kohima finished third in this year’s tournament, while Longsa Sporting Association secured fourth place.
The biennial All Nagaland Open tournament was organised by the Luke Sasong Sporting Association under the aegis of the Mangmetong Students’ Union, with eight teams competing.
CVA’s Sarilepzung was named Best Setter, while teammate Yongkongtenzuk won the Best Spiker award. Savage Setters’ Imtinungba was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
The 14th edition carried a total cash prize of Rs 1.85 lakh. The champions received Rs 80,000, runners-up Rs 50,000, third place Rs 25,000 and fourth place Rs 15,000. The individual award winners received Rs 5,000 each.
Rural Development and SIRD Minister Metsübo Jamir attended the closing ceremony as special guest.
