The Churches Colony Council has reimposed a ban on all forms of monthly collections by unions, associations, and self-styled groups within its jurisdiction, citing continued violations of an earlier directive issued in 2023.

In a notice dated April 18, the Council stated that despite its previous order, certain groups have continued to collect money in the name of welfare, membership, and maintenance, causing inconvenience and financial burden to residents and the business community.

Reiterating its decision, the Council declared that no individual, union, or association would be permitted to collect money in any form within Churches Colony. It further warned that any direct or indirect collection activities would be strictly prohibited and that violations could invite necessary action.

The Council said the move was aimed at safeguarding the welfare and interests of the community.

The decision has received backing from the Joint Council Forum, which expressed full support for the directive, stating that such measures were necessary to protect residents and businesses from unauthorized demands. It urged all concerned to comply strictly with the order.

Similarly, the Ward 21 Welfare Committee endorsed the resolution, terming it justified to curb unauthorized collections and to protect the economic stability of residents and the business community. The Committee also called for strict compliance and warned that violations would be dealt with appropriately.

The re-imposition of the ban follows a resolution adopted by the Council in April 2023, which had prohibited collection activities by unions and associations within its jurisdiction. The Council had then cited the growing number of “self-styled” groups collecting money under various pretexts, adding to the burden on the business community already facing multiple taxation pressures.

It had also maintained that welfare and administrative matters within the colony should be handled by existing bodies such as the Council, GB office, and youth organisations, without external interference.
