According to reliable sources, the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) at its meeting held today at Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) Hall in Tuensang reiterated its August 26 resolution to abstain from participating in the upcoming elections.

According to sources, the house has decided to demand resignations from all party workers affiliated with any political party, and that filing of nomination papers will also not be allowed.

This development comes at a backdrop when the meeting with the three-member committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs was termed a ‘success’ after their departure from Nagaland on Sunday.

Meanwhile, according to a PTI report, the MHA team studying statehood demand in eastern Nagaland has met CM Neiphiu Rio and senior bureaucrats to know the state government’s views.

Earlier this morning, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was seen speaking to Northeast Live where he informed that the government has handed over the findings of the CM level committee to the Central Committee.

Meanwhile, following a crucial meeting between Nagaland CM Rio and the state legislators, all 60 legislators of Nagaland have decided to abstain from campaigning for the upcoming Assembly election to be held in the first half of 2023.

Speaking to the media, the Nagaland Chief Minister said, “The elected members…we sat and discussed… till December nobody should go for the campaign because we have come together in support of the solution.”

“I have told the Naga groups also if a solution doesn’t come, don’t blame us because you are negotiating, we are facilitators and if a solution doesn’t come and the election is announced then we have to participate, you should not misunderstand,” the CM added.

On the Naga peace talks, Rio said Naga negotiators have returned from New Delhi and that no breakthrough is likely to be achieved before Christmas as talks will resume only after this festive season.
