As futsal fever sweeps through the town, local football fans are gearing up for an action-packed tournament set to kick off Tuesday at the state-of-the-art Mojabi Futsal Turf in Mokokchung. The anticipation is palpable as teams from across the region prepare to compete in the highly anticipated Open Futsal Tournament, showcasing their skills and vying for the coveted championship title.
The tournament, organized by the Dynamic Sports Active, promises to be a thrilling event that brings together futsal enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. Futsal, a fast-paced and dynamic version of traditional football played indoors with a smaller ball and smaller teams, has gained immense popularity in recent years due to its exciting and skillful style of play.
A total of 21 teams, consisting local teams as well as 6 outstation teams from Kohima, Dimapur and Manipur, will be participating in the tournament.
In addition to the competitive aspect, the tournament will also feature a women’s exhibition match to provide opportunity and platform to showcase their talent. Salangtem ladies and Shooting Stars will play the historic match and the organizers informed that the best 8 will be selected to represent the team in any upcoming tournaments.
“Exciting of all to have 2 all women teams participating in an exhibition match for the first time in a Futsal Tournament in Mojabi Futsal Turf,” Andrew Ropmay, an organizer told this newspaper.
Speaking to Mokokchung Times, Atola, a team member of Shooting Stars said that their team consists of a group of cousins. “We cannot play that well but we wanted to encourage the girls in the town to play the sport,” she said.
“There are many players in Kohima and Dimapur but most girls in Mokokchung shy away, so we wanted to show that girls can also play the sport,” Atola added.
The winners of the 2-Day tournament will take home a cash prize of Rs 40,000 and runners up with Rs 20,000.
With the tournament set to kick off Tuesday, the stage is set for an electrifying showcase of futsal skills, teamwork, and determination. Excitement is building for what promises to be a memorable event of futsal, the new craze taking over the town.
