Imphal, 17 December (MTNews): In an intense firefight between cadres of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) in Manipur on Sunday morning, officials have confirmed the tragic loss of two alleged ZUF members’ lives, while one member of the NSCN-IM sustained injuries.

The exchange of gunfire unfolded around 6:30 AM near Lamdangmei village, within the jurisdiction of the Khoupum police station in Manipur’s Noney district. The brief yet intense confrontation, lasting approximately five minutes, resulted in the reported deaths of two alleged ZUF members—identified as Rajulung from Jiribam district and Kyapna from Luwangshung village in the Noney district, while one NSCN-IM cadre sustained injuries in the altercation.

Responding promptly to the incident, a joint team comprising Manipur police and Assam Rifles reached the scene to recover the bodies of the deceased ZUF members.

Meanwhile, sources have reported that NSCN-IM Sergeant Major Ramreikan, alias Akan, from Ukhrul near Siroi Village, succumbed to his injuries. Akan was reportedly the commander of their team.
