Mokokchung, April 4 (MTNews): The Global Naga Forum, while condemning the firing incident in Chasa village under Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, has demanded repealing of AFSPA. “The AFSPA was renewed four days ago, 1st April 2022, in the Naga area of Tirap, Changlang, and Longding District in Arunachal Pradesh.
On this very day, the 12 Para Special Commando Force, under the command of Major James, wilfully shot two Chasa Villagers who were coming back to their village after a day of fishing. As the four youths were climbing up the hill towards their village, the 12 Para Special Commando unit shot at them from the back injuring two of them. This was not just a reckless act; it was an attempt to murder,” GNF said.
“We appeal to the law enforcement agencies to book the culprits immediately and criminal prosecution be brought against every offender,” GNF said. “Crucially, the AFSPA – the Act that has legalized the oppression, murder, and dehumanization of the Nagas for 64 years must be immediately “Repealed” from the entire Naga homeland,” GNF reiterated.
“The Global Naga Forum condemns outright the repeated killings in Naga areas of Arunachal Pradesh and predictable fake encounters and “mistaken identities” that trash the basic human rights of the people of the Northeast,” if further said, and added, “We are sick and tired of the combined and endless betrayal of the Indian government, parliament, and Army.”
GNF said that AFSPA must be repealed for good by Parliament in the interest of India’s survival as a democracy and as a society governed by the rule of law.
