Government Polytechnic Kohima (GPK) organised an awareness programme on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Nagaland at the institute auditorium on Wednesday, highlighting the importance of updated electoral rolls and civic participation among young citizens.
Er N. Yibenthung Tungoe, Senior Lecturer and Nodal Officer for Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), explained the purpose and objectives of the SIR exercise. He stressed the responsibility of electors to complete and submit the Enumeration Form and briefed participants on the SIR schedule, digital platforms and helpline services available for assistance.
Tungoe encouraged students to equip themselves with accurate voter information so they could assist community members who may face difficulties with the process.
During the programme, Er Keyiekhru Rhutso, Principal of GPK, announced the formation of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at the institute. The club comprises one nodal officer, two campus ambassadors and 12 members.
More than 200 students and 15 faculty and staff members participated in the programme.
The event was led by Sentiya Kath, Campus Ambassador and fifth-semester Computer Science and Engineering student. Vile S. Sangtam delivered the welcome address, while Meigang Konyak proposed the vote of thanks.
