Governor says February agreement can open new avenues for Eastern Nagaland

Yadav made the remarks during an interaction with district officials and civil society representatives during his visit to Tuensang on October 8.

Referring to the agreement signed in New Delhi on February 5 concerning the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority, the Governor described it as an important milestone for Eastern Nagaland. He said the development reflected the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding and democratic engagement in addressing the aspirations and developmental needs of the region.

Yadav expressed hope that the agreement would lead to inclusive development, stronger institutions, improved infrastructure and greater opportunities for the people of Eastern Nagaland, while preserving the unity and integrity of Nagaland.

During the interaction, the Governor also highlighted Tuensang’s potential in agriculture, horticulture, handloom and handicrafts, tourism, education and entrepreneurship. He said improved connectivity, infrastructure, technology and opportunities for young people could enable the district to contribute more significantly to Nagaland’s economic growth.

He called for greater focus on young people, encouraging them to acquire new skills, access technology and pursue opportunities that would allow them to contribute to the development of their communities.

Yadav also stressed that development should be accompanied by the preservation of cultural heritage, including traditional practices, language, customs, music and community institutions.

The Governor said his visit was intended to strengthen engagement between constitutional institutions and people at the grassroots level and to provide an opportunity to understand the aspirations and concerns of the district.

He appreciated the efforts of the district administration, security forces, churches, civil society organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders in promoting peace, stability and development.

During the program, presentations on departmental activities were made by the Departments of Health and Family Welfare and Rural Development. The President of ENPO, A. Chingmak, Vice President of CKS Sipong Chang and Joint Secretary of USLP T. Bendang Dhongrü also addressed the gathering.

The program was chaired by Tuensang Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa.
