The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather update, forecasting cloudy skies and heavy rainfall across Nagaland in the coming days. The advisory, which remains in effect until August 25, has warned that the showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas.

The NSDMA has highlighted that heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Kohima, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Mon, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Phek, and Peren. Residents in these areas have been urged to take necessary precautions, particularly against lightning strikes and gale-force winds that may disrupt communication and connectivity.

In addition, the NSDMA has noted that the excessive precipitation expected in the hill sector could lead to waterlogging and flash floods in Nagaland’s lowland and foothill regions. Areas likely to be impacted include Dimapur, Niuland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli.

The NSDMA, under the Home Department, has called on the public to remain vigilant and take safety measures during this period. They have also requested all District Disaster Management Authorities and relevant departments to stay on high alert to protect lives and property throughout the monsoon season.
