IIM Shillong’s Outreach Program on 26 April made a significant contribution to Longpayimsen Village by handing over a collection of books to the Village Council. The books will be used to establish a library aimed at benefiting the village residents, particularly the youth. The initiative is expected to help youngsters in the village build character and broaden their vision.

As the only Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the entire North East, IIM Shillong has been consistently working to develop skills and competencies among the region’s youth. The recent donation, according to an update received here, is part of the institute’s ongoing efforts to positively impact local communities.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), under its special drive to promote the participation of women in the shipping industry, launched the ‘Sagar Mein Samman’ initiative. As part of this initiative, a team of senior shipping industry executives visited various parts of the North East to educate and raise awareness about career opportunities in merchant shipping.

Today, Capt Dr Ashutosh Apandkar, Principal of the oldest DGS-approved institute, visited Longpayimsen village to interact with local students and youth. Dr Apandkar encouraged students, especially those who have completed their 10th and/or 12th standard and are below the age of 21, to apply for scholarships and other support available through the initiative.
