Weighing in its position on the demand for repairing the hospital road in Mokokchung town, the Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM) has on Monday stated that any cold or lackadaisical gesture by the concerned authority can no longer be tolerated. It further went on to say that if urgent meaningful actions are not taken, the OKM will not be reluctant to go to the extent of resorting to its own course of action.
OKM in a press release issued by Limatongzuk Jamir, president, and Sungkumjang Kichu, general secretary, said that the “competent authority’s tardiness” in carrying out the repair work shows signs of indifference and disregard on their part.
While requesting the “relevant authority” to act with sincere concern and urgency to “remedy this serious problem,” OKM said that it supports the demand put forward by the four wards Youth Association and that it endorses the same.
“The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) is compelled to remark that the town’s most crucial road is being ignored. The demand of the four wards Youth Association to immediately repair the road leading to Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) is most genuine and needs to be taken in utmost seriousness,” it said.
OKM further attested that it is true that the road leading to the district hospital is in a terrible state and is seriously disrupting commuters, particularly patients who are visiting the hospital, as well the general public.
Six-day ultimatum to expire today
Members of the coordination committee representing the four youth associations and ward authorities, as well as the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town, met the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung at the latter’s office to discuss the former’s demand for immediate repair of the IMDH road on Monday.
According to sources, no concrete decision was reached during the meeting. As such, the coordination committee has decided to stick to their six-day ultimatum failing which they would resort to blocking the IMDH road beginning Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a member of the coordination committee stated that they have decided to stick to their ultimatum until they receive “a written order stating that the sanction has been released.”
Concerning the nature of the road block, it was stated that the coordination committee will discuss the matter at a meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
