Mokokchung, November 24 (MTNews): Four ward youth associations of Mokokchung town have issued an ultimatum to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung to repair the road leading to Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH) from the main police point to Sewak Gate.

In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, the ward youth associations of Penli, Majakong, Lijaba Lijen and Artang declared that if the “concerned authority” does not respond positively within six days after the submission of the ultimatum, they will block the said road starting from Main Police Point to Sewak Gate Junction “unconditionally.”

The four youth organizations said that on August 23, they submitted a representation to the DC and to all concerned for repairing and maintenance of the road which is only about 2 km, but it was ignored. “Nothing has been intimated of the joint statement made by the undersigned on September 27, 2022 regarding the initiative progress of the said road repairing,” they added.

The associations also said that they made an appeal to the Chief Minister through the Mokokchung DC on November 17, “which was never responded.”

“With all the ignorance shown by the concerned authority, we are deeply grieved towards the ill-attitude of those who are elected and assigned to look after the welfare of the citizens,” the associations said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung told this newspaper that the issue is being taken up and observed that blocking of the road would create more inconvenience. “We are taking up the issue with the concerned authority. We are hopeful that it shall be taken up very soon,” he said. On the blocking of the hospital road as made known by the four youth organizations, the DC said, “I am not convinced with the blockage of the road because blocking the road shall further create inconvenience to the general public and the patients.”

It may be mentioned here that the Ao Senden and the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) have also on November 22 through separate press statements demanded the Chief Minister to release the funds reportedly earmarked for the maintenance of the said road.
