Rohit Sharma is set to lead India in their pursuit of coveted glory, as the BCCI unveils the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Prior to the announcement, speculation swirled around the wicketkeeper role, with several contenders vying for the position. Ultimately, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have been entrusted with the gloves.

Pant’s return to international cricket marks a significant moment, following a near-fatal accident in December 2022 that sidelined him for over a year. Shivan Dube’s impressive IPL performance ensured his inclusion in the squad, maintaining his spot after featuring in the recent T20I series against Afghanistan. The 30-year-old, in stellar form for the Chennai Super Kings, amassed 350 runs in nine matches at a remarkable strike rate of 172.41.

India has opted for a spin-heavy bowling lineup, featuring Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal, while the pace attack will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, supported by Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and vice-captain Hardik Pandya.

The selection of batters brings no surprises, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav expected to fortify the top order alongside captain Rohit. Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh find themselves among the reserves, alongside pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

Notably absent from the list is KL Rahul, a stalwart who featured in India’s previous two T20 World Cup campaigns (2021 and 2022).
