Rokuo Kehie Khawakhrie of Nagaland won Bronze Medal for India at the International Belt Wrestling Grand Prix held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The Indian contingent showcased commendable performances throughout the tournament, with Khawakhrie’s achievement serving as a highlight. However, Venuzo Dawho, former Naga wrestling champion was sidelined from the bronze medal match due to injury, marking a setback for the team.

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Associate Vice President of Indian Athletics, expressed gratitude to Omarmukhtar Tamboli, President of All India Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Federation (AITWPF) & Asian Alysh Federation, and Member of United World Wrestling – World Belt Wrestling (UWW_WBW), for their invaluable contributions.

 

“It was an excellent learning experience for the contingent and this is only the beginning of an exciting journey ahead,” Metha said.
