In a major development within the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN- U), General Secretary N Kitovi Zhimomi has issued a termination order against Alezo Venuh, who was recently elected as General Secretary following Zhimomi’s own impeachment just a month ago.

The ‘Termination Azha’ believed to have been issued by Zhimomi on21 May 2024 accuses Venuh of conspiring and being accomplice in attempts to “coup the government”. The order terminated Venuh’s party membership.

Additionally, the termination order also implicates Gen. Samson Aye, Commander in Chief of the Naga Army, GPRN, alleging misuse of power and involvement in government coups on two different occasions (11 May 2022 and 21 April 2024). These actions, the termination order reads, have severely broke down the “sanctity and integrity of the government”.

It may be noted that following Zhimomi’s impeachment, Commander-in-Chief Samson Ayemi reportedly assumed the role of vice-president within the NSCN-U.

The termination order, effective immediately upon issuance, cites party discipline provisions as grounds for expelling Venuh and Aye from “active party membership.”

This latest twist in the group’s leadership tussle comes just days after its Chairman Gen. (Retd.) MB Neokpao Konyak reportedly issued an expulsion order against Zhimomi. Konyak’s order on 15 May accused Zhimomi of maligning the organization’s image, engaging in activities against its Yehzabo and personalizing the mission and achievements to his own credit.

“Moreover, he has not realized rampant corruption and misuse men and machinery for his selfish motive and continue the same in an unabated manner,” the Chairman had stated, adding that on the above grounds and circumstances, Zhimomi was expelled from both primary and active membership of the GPRN/NSCN.
