Nagaland University, encompassing all its campuses in Lumami, Kohima, Medziphema, and Dimapur, celebrated International Yoga Day 2024 under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.” The event saw enthusiastic participation from a diverse group of around 500 people comprising officers, faculty members, staff members, scholars, and students.

Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and spoke eloquently about the significance of yoga. His insights highlighted how yoga not only benefits individual well-being but also fosters a sense of community and societal harmony.

Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, the Deputy Director of Sports and Organizing Secretary, warmly welcomed the gathering. He also demonstrated various yoga asanas, guiding participants through the physical and mental benefits of each posture.

Among others, University officials including Registrar Dr. Abemo, Controller of Examinations Mr. Yanrenthung Ezung, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Director of IQAC Prof. Dipak Sinha, was present and actively engaged in the program. Their presence underscored the university’s commitment to promoting holistic health and wellness through yoga.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Ashish Kumar, Hindi Officer, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and organizers.

The celebration of International Yoga Day at Nagaland University not only reinforced the importance of yoga for personal health but also highlighted its potential to enhance collective well-being and societal cohesion.

Meanwhile, at Nagaland University Kohima Campus, Meriema the International Day of Yoga programme started with Mr. Metsizolie Medoze, Deputy Registrar, stressing on the importance of Yoga in day to day activities. Yoga Demonstrator Mr. Vizobilie Punyu emphasized on the importance of Yoga in enhancing mental well-being. More than 40 participants took part in the event. Assistant Director of sports Mr. Mesanguto Meru acknowledged all the participants for their active participation.
