Kohima, 29 September (MTNews): In a joint operation conducted by Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police, three active cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K-Nikki) were apprehended in Nagaland on September 27, 2023. The operation also resulted in the recovery of three pistols of 0.32 calibers, along with a cache of ammunition and warlike stores.

According to an official update, the joint operation was initiated based on intelligence regarding the movement of NSCN (K-Nikki) cadres along National Highway-29.

Following this, on Wednesday, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post was established in Kohima, and at approximately 7:30 PM, the security forces apprehended the three insurgents.

The recovered items, including five mobile phones and a vehicle that had been in possession of the insurgents, were subsequently handed over to the police, as reported.

It can be recalled that NSCN-K-Niki and the Government of India have mutually agreed to extend the ceasefire agreement from 8 September 2023 for a period of one year until 7 September 2024. The organization first signed their ceasefire agreement in September 2021.

According to the 2021 agreement, during the course of the ceasefire, all weapons and ammunition of armed cadres of NSCN(K) Nikki, except those permitted for camp security and those in possession of the special ceasefire ID card, will be kept under the joint supervision of Chairman CFSB and NSCN (K) Nikki. The designated camps will be jointly surveyed, and geographic boundaries will be specified and notified by the CFSB Chairman.

It was also agreed that in the interest of promoting the peace process, there would be no movement in uniform and/or with arms outside “designated camps”.

The agreement further stated that the group “will not carry out extortion, forceful collection of money and supplies, and intimidation of individuals, including government officials.” It was also agreed that during the course of the ceasefire, Niki’s group would refrain from recruiting new armed cadres.
