Mokokchung, 27 October (MTNews): Jubilee Memorial College celebrated its Cultural Day with the theme “Balancing Tradition and Modernity” on the 27th of October 2023 at Aongza Ki, Mokokchung. This annual event of the college provides students with a platform to recognize and engage in the rich and diverse practices of their culture.
Lanutoshi Aier, President of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang delivered a speech where he encouraged the students to maintain their true ethnic identity and not be swayed by the modernization and elaboration of today’s world. He emphasized the need to protect and promote their native languages and dialects, as the younger generation often leans toward foreign languages.
The highlight of the day was a competition among four houses: House of Lannister, House of Targaryen, House of Baratheon, and House of Starks. These houses engaged in various events, including Indigenous Cuisine, Traditional Hand Spinning, Bamboo Stilt Race, Cock Fight, Traditional Yowling and Howling, among others.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Akumtemsü, Assistant Cultural Secretary at JMC.
