The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) observed World Day Against Child Labour by conducting legal awareness programmes in six schools across Kohima district, sensitising 845 students and over 30 teachers and staff on child rights, child protection laws and legal services available under the NALSA (Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme, 2024.

The programmes were held at Chandmari Government High School, Government High School New Market, Government Middle School Officers’ Hill, Government High School Midland, Chandmari Higher Secondary School and Government Higher Secondary School, Sechu Zubza.
Resource persons highlighted key laws, including the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Right to Education Act and cyber safety provisions. Students were also educated on child labour, good touch and bad touch, online safety and available support mechanisms, including Child Helpline 1098.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults,” speakers stressed that children belong in schools and playgrounds, not workplaces, and encouraged them to seek help whenever their rights are violated.
The awareness drive was conducted by a KDLSA team comprising 10 panel lawyers, three advocates and two para legal volunteers.
