The project, titled “Empowering Rural Women through Kadaknath Poultry Farming: A Sustainable Approach to Livelihood and Nutrition,” aims to enhance household nutrition, income generation and women’s empowerment through scientific poultry farming practices.

ADC Akuluto, Tiayanger Jamir, attended the programme as chief guest, while NABARD District Development Manager (DDM) Poji was the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Programme Coordinator and Head of KVK Zunheboto, said the initiative seeks to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural women through technical support and improved poultry management.

Jamir encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the inputs and develop Kadaknath poultry farming into a viable enterprise. He noted that Kadaknath chicken commands a premium market price due to its nutritional value, including low fat and high protein content. He also stressed the need for value addition and branding of agricultural products to maximise farmers’ earnings. Poji described the introduction of Kadaknath poultry as a unique initiative for the district and state, expressing confidence that it would improve household incomes while creating future business opportunities.

During the programme, beneficiaries from Sastami, Maromi and Ajiqami villages received Kadaknath chicks, feed, medicines, drinkers and feeders. The event was attended by village leaders, beneficiaries, officials from various departments and KVK staff.
