The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has appealed to the District Education Officer of Kiphire to urgently address the lack of basic facilities and teaching staff at Government High School (GHS) Seyochung.

In a letter submitted following their monthly school visit on April 10, 2025, the Union highlighted the absence of essential infrastructure, including toilets, urinals, access to clean water, and staff quarters. According to the SVSU, the shortage of these facilities is severely affecting the day-to-day functioning of the school and the well-being of both students and staff.

The Union expressed gratitude for the recent appointment of an Assistant Headmaster, which they said had positively contributed to the school’s administration. However, they also pointed out that Science classes remain non-functional due to the absence of a Science teacher, and called for the urgent posting of a qualified teacher for the subject.

As part of its commitment to supporting the school, SVSU informed that it has been conducting regular monthly visits, and submitted a copy of its attendance record along with the letter.

The Union urged the district authorities to take immediate action to improve conditions at the school and ensure the academic needs of the students are met.

SVSU requests infrastructure reorganization

The Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has formally written to the Principal Director of the Directorate of School Education, Kohima, seeking permission to reorganize the infrastructure of government schools in Seyochung Village.

In their letter, the Union highlighted that the Government Primary School (GPS), Government Middle School (GMS), and Government High School (GHS) are now functioning under a composite management system. To ensure better utilization of existing facilities, the Union proposed two key arrangements.

Firstly, the SVSU requested approval to shift all materials from the Government Primary School to the Government Middle School premises. The Union stated that this would allow for better organization of resources and optimal use of space.

Secondly, the Union proposed converting a portion of the Government High School building into temporary staff quarters. Citing the absence of adequate staff accommodations and the challenges faced by teachers posted from outside, the Union said that such an arrangement would help retain teachers and ensure regular attendance.

The SVSU expressed confidence that the proposed measures would support the smooth functioning of the schools and enhance the learning environment for both students and teachers.
