Kohima College celebrated its 59th Foundation Day at the college courtyard on Saturday, bringing together faculty, students and guests to commemorate its journey in higher education and honour academic excellence.
Dr. Watijungshi Jamir, retired Additional Director of Higher Education and former Principal of Kohima College, attended as the special guest. Dr. Medongulie Tseikhanuo, Associate Professor, Department of Tenyidie, chaired the programme, while Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vupru delivered the welcome address. The programme included a prayer, the College Anthem and a special song by members of the EU, Kohima College.
Recalling his association with the institution, Jamir said the college was established through the conviction and determination of those who envisioned it. He noted that it had continued to contribute to society by shaping generations of students and said its government takeover demonstrated its value.
Jamir encouraged students, particularly freshers, to make the most of their time at the college and contribute to its continuing legacy.
The Foundation Day featured awards for academic excellence. Manyei Konyak received the Commerce Department’s Outstanding Student Award 2026, while Shukiu T was named History Department topper. Vetazo Veswüh received the UG Meritorious Award 2026 for the highest sixth-semester score.
Hengwale Kent and Viketuno Tsükrü secured Nagaland University Rank 1 and Rank 2 respectively. Kent, who secured Rank 1 in M.A. Political Science with a CGPA of 8.81, received the Kohima College Academic Excellence Award, carrying Rs 30,000 and a certificate. Liiline Vemai received the Alumni Meritorious Award 2025 for securing Nagaland University Top 4.
The Dr. Satuo Sekhose Star Pupil Award 2026 went to Keneivotuo Kesiezie of Economics. Four faculty members were also honoured for scholarly contributions.
