Kohima, 29 April (MTNews): In response to the pressing issue of multiple taxation by anti-social elements, self-styled syndicates, and unscrupulous individuals, the Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) has commended the proactive measures undertaken by the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), a unit of the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

However, the KVYO said that “undeliverable preconditions or deadlines are an end rather than a beginning to a dialogue.” It said indefinite closure of business establishments is not the solution. Instead, it suggested to “uphold the value of dialogue in times of insecurity and to have an exploratory dialogue with the state government and other entities” and “seek potential areas of common ground for the welfare of the business community and for the citizens of Kohima City.”

“Kohima being the capital city of all Nagas, and which falls under the Kohima village traditional jurisdiction, the Kohima Village Youth Organization will not allow any association, organization or unions to hijack the day to day activities bringing the city to a halt in the form of bandhs, which affects the productivity of the city and for which the lower strata of the society usually bears the brunt, further the organization asks the KCCI to open all its business establishments for the welfare of each and every citizen of Kohima,” the KVYO said.

The KVYO also reminded the business community “not to inflate the prices of commodities post its ‘Shutter Down’ held on 26 April 2024.”

Meanwhile, the KVYO acknowledged the Nagaland State Government’s “prompt response to the demands of the business community during its cabinet meeting held on 26th April, 2024 directing the Director General of Police, Nagaland in curbing illegal rampant taxation, extortion, kidnappings.”

Further, the organization requested the State government to “sincerely implement its policy based on the cabinet meeting as per DIPR report.”
