The two-day Cucumber Festival held at Aliba village concluded on Thursday at the Aliba village ground, Mokokchung. The valedictory program was graced by B Imti Tzudir, DAO & PD, ATMA, Mokokchung as the special invitee. Speaking at the program, Tzudir said that the Cucumber Festival is a landmark, “a history created in the Department of Agriculture.”

 

 

He commended the Aliba village council and ATMA Mokokchung for their efforts, noting that ATMA Mokokchung has the top performing officials and personnel in the districts.

 

He stated that cucumbers are in high demand, making them a product that may be exported to other states. He also stated that the agency will continue to spread off-season cucumber farming in any region where it is possible.

 

He also encouraged the farmers to make Aliba village a commercial centre and put the village “in the map of India.”

The organising committee presented two prizes based on the proposal of the Aliba village council: Best Individual Cucumber Farmer Award 2021 to Jungshiningsang of Aliba Village and Best Self Help Group Cucumber Cultivators Award 2021 to Longjem Self Help Group, Aliba Village.

 

Farmers from Longleng, Wokha, Tuensang, and Zunheboto also attended the two-day festival, where they inspected cucumber farms and exchanged cucumber and vegetable farming knowledge.

 

The valedictory ceremony was presided over by Soyimkumba, President of the Aliba Students’ Union, and the vote of appreciation was offered by the Aliba Council.
