Longleng, 22 January (MTNews): In commemoration of the National Day of the Girl Child, the District Administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Longleng organized a marathon race on 22 January 2024 with the theme “I Came, I Ran, I Finished.”

This event was part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) week-long campaign in view of the National Day of the Girl Child in Longleng.

Meyazungba Jamir, the SDO(C) and Nodal Officer for BBBP Longleng, highlighted in his brief address said that in Nagaland, women and girls are outperforming men in the realm of education.

He expressed the belief that women will eventually take the lead in the state’s education sector, emphasizing that knowledge is power, and education can overcome any shortcomings.

The motto of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, translating to “Save the Girl Child and Elevate the Girl Child in Every Aspect,” underscores the need for introspection and contemplation.

Jamir stressed the importance of starting at the smallest unit: the family. Families, he emphasized, have the responsibility to provide opportunities for their girl child and educate her about her rights, as understanding one’s rights is crucial.

He also highlighted the need for men to support women and emphasized the collective responsibility to protect women’s rights while ensuring access to education.

The race was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Longleng Dharam Raj, IAS. Shingyom, Deaconess of Longleng Town Baptist Church, pronounced the invocation.

The race route extended from NST junction to Lempong junction and back to NST junction.

Eimei Angloi C, from Shauli ward, secured the first position, while Yunglei L from PPC ward and C. Chunggoi from Bahonk ward secured the second and third positions, respectively.
