Chuchuyimlang, January 10 (MTNews): The main celebratory event of the 75 years anniversary of the Langpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (LKM) was held today at Anü Mai Amphitheater, Chuchuyimlang village with Nagaland PWD (Housing & Mechanical) Minister Tongpang Ozüküm as guest of honor.

The 5-day celebration commemorating 75 years of existence and LKM and 33rd LKM Sports Meet commenced on January 9 under the theme, “Dynamic Pioneers” at Chuchuyimlang and will conclude on January 13.

 

Tongpang Ozüküm while speaking at the event said that, apart from the joyous celebrations, a jubilee is also a time for retrospection and introspection, a time for reconciliation and rebuilding of relations. Sharing his opinion on the convention of adopting resolutions during jubilees and conferences, which are often not successfully translated into action, Ozüküm said that such resolutions must be brought to fruition. He also emphasized on the importance of maintaining cordial relations with neighbouring tribes as in the past.

 

Highlighting the importance of economic development, he suggested encouraging the youths to practice business as opposed to the craze for government jobs. He also stated that capital investment is needed to pursue any business and advised the youngsters to work honestly to win the confidence of financial institutions and investors.

 

During the event, the L. Pangersowa Jamir Trust Award for Academic Excellence was awarded to three HSLC top achievers – Otikala Jamir of Changtongya, Yimyatetla Longkumer of Changtongya and Toshimanen Jamir of Merangkong. The achievers were awarded commendation certificates and cash award of Rs.20,000 each.

 

Further, the LL Yaden Meritorious Scholarship was awarded to three students – Aküminla of Changtongya, Yongkongsangla of Chuchuyimlang and Marnungtet of Mongsenyimti. This award is presented exclusively to students from Langpangkong range studying in Government schools in Langpangkong range who secure the highest academic marks. The scholarship carried a cash incentive of Rs.50,000 along with citation certificates.

 

Both awards presentations were presided over by P Onen Longkumer, convener.

 

Other highlights of the day’s event included short speeches delivered by N. Dape Phom, president of Phom Students’ Conference; Nungdokyanger Ao, president of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang; Limatongzük Jamir, president of Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang; Marsanen Imsong, president of Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang; A Pangjung Jamir, LKM advisor and Director of Land Resources Department, Nagaland, Kohima; and A Chuba Ozüküm, Consultant, Department of Law & Justice, GoN.

 

Putimeren Imsong also spoke at the event on behalf of the family of LL Yaden, the first president of LKM. A book on the historical account of LKM was also introduced by Imotong, convener of the publication committee which was formally released by Tongpang Ozüküm. The Kangtsüng Kaketshir Telongjem and the jubilee choir also presented special numbers.
